No one panic!

Let me tell you … it was hard to squeeze in the ten minutes to write today. I’ve been non-stop. Grocery store at 7:30am because I forgot the skewers. Then had to make the skewers so that I’d have enough bowls to make the desserts. Then had a meeting. Then had to pick up all these hooligans (my sister and her friends). Then had another meeting. Then had to MAKE the desserts. Then… then, then, then. You get the gist.

I was able to play hooky enough this afternoon to join the kiddos (they’re not kiddos, but it’s my younger sister, and they’re all kiddos to me) on a walk along the lake. I couldn’t not - it is freaking perfect outside. The only thing I really needed to be back for was the ice cream cake pick up at 5. I had plenty of time.

Julia, her friend Julia, and I ended up separating from the group after a couple minutes. We were more in the ‘this is a walk’ mindset, while the others leaned a little more ‘oh, this dog park is really cute, let’s stop’.

We were cruising. We’d almost reached the point I was hoping to reach when we stopped for a time check.

“4:56!” Julia (sister Julia, to clarify) announced. We looked at each other and our jaws dropped at the exact same moment.

“Oh, we’re screwed.” Was my immediate reaction. I had done the quick calculations - at least a 30 minute walk from the car, and at least a 15 minute drive to Baskin Robbins. Calling an uber wouldn’t have even saved us much time. Sister Julia and I immediately started jogging. Why? I have no idea. It wouldn’t have even shaved 5 minutes off a 45 minute problem (at least at the pace that I am able to jog…).

“No,” I said, stopping. “We are *bleeped.” (It had gone from screwed to bleeped.) “We’ve gotta call them.”

I pulled up the right Baskin Robbins and rang the number. “Oh, you’re fine,” he assured me. “It’s ready and you can grab it whenever before close.”

I conveyed the great news to the Julias and we all stress-giggled and skipped for a few steps, shaking out the almost-nightmare.

The important thing is that no one panicked. (I am joking. We absolutely panicked.)
