Austin’s in the kitchen making chili while I work.
Ohhhh, nasty. I look over at him, his nose wrinkled as he inspects a white onion.
Onion went bad? I inquire. He nods and the rotten onion makes a satisfying thunk in the bottom of the trash.
Ohhhhh, NASTY! This time he’s holding a red onion. I laugh. I didn’t use the other half of a white one yesterday. It’s in the fridge.
Silence as he rummages through the fridge. I don’t see it.
Keep looking.
More silence.
I don’t think it’s in here.
It’s in there. Ziploc baggie.
More silence. And some more. And finally - Got it!
Hmmm. I say. Looks like I was right.
He looks over at me and I already know I’m going to regret my jab. Hey, Larkin, just wondering, could you point me in the direction of the baking powder?"
I was right. Yesterday I looked and looked for that dang baking powder. I had emptied drawers, gotten out the step stool to see if it was hiding in any out of sight nook, and finally had practically dragged Austin out of the office, begging for help looking for the baking powder. Turns out it had been right where Austin had said it was. Top of the fridge.
Austin takes my silence as a win… Which, unfortunately, it is. Yep. That’s what I thought.
