March 4 - Pre-Work TJ's

I’ve been meaning to go to Trader Joe’s for weeks now. Weeks. I am not being dramatic. I just really do not like grocery shopping, especially when said grocery store is a 20 minute drive… I live in a suburban city. I’m spoiled with options (and yes, that’s an “s” at the end of option") that are a 10 minute walk from my apartment. But my need for the Trader Joe’s Marula Facial Oil exponentially increased last night when I squeezed out the bottle’s last few drops.

So this morning I got myself up and at ‘em nice and early and took off for Trader Joe’s, arriving right as they opened at 8am.

Let me tell you. It was the nicest grocery shopping experience I have maybe ever had.

It was as though I was the star pupil. The prized poodle. The golden shopper. If I had a question? There were three workers there to answer. If something was out of stock? Oh, just you hang right there, I’ll check the back! was the response. Was I… slowly convincing myself into converting to Pre-Work Grocery Shopping?

The checkout sealed the deal.

No line, of course, and as I reached for my bags I heard someone behind me say, I’ll get that for you! just as the man in front of me reached out his hand. Oh my gosh! I joked. I’m so popular right now!

The man in front of me won out for bagging privileges, and he, the cashier and I all had a wonderful little chat about how excited we were to do nothing with our weekends. That’s how you know you’re getting old, she told me with a smile. You stop feeling the need to say yes to everyone.

I don’t think I’m getting old, necessarily… But I think I’m old enough to enjoy Pre-Work Grocery Shopping.

~ I’ve been slammed today, but art tomorrow! ~
