March 10 - Street Cookies

Where did those cookies come from? Claire asks Alex, who’s planted himself on a bench along the sidewalk, right beside a bag of cookies. He shrugs and continues to eat his gelato, side eyeing the two of us. Their parents are enjoying their own cones on his right, and the question of the ownership of the cookies goes unanswered.

It should probably be prefaced that Claire and I have had The Giggles all night. Are they… she looks at me. STREET COOKIES?!

There is absolutely no reason for this to be anywhere near as funny as I find it. But for whatever reason, Claire deeming this gourmet bag of chocolate chip cookies ‘the street cookies’ really tickles my funny-bone. I mean, it was odd. Whoever had bought these cookies had definitely forgotten them.

Alright, someone’s gotta eat the STREET COOKIES! We both erupt, completely unable to contain ourselves. The bit, of course, continues. Did the street monkeys come and drop off the STREET COOKIES?! Honestly, we were at the point where anything and everything was funny. Nothing had to make sense. Maybe it had to do with flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz? I don’t think either of us could have told you.

About five minutes later, we all finish our gelatos and are getting up to walk to the car. Claire and Alex’s dad bends down to pick up the bag of street cookies.

Dad! What the heck do you think you’re doing with the street cookies! Cue another fit of giggles on both of our parts. Seriously, it was as though we had reverted straight back to 5th grade.

Her dad looks at her in complete confusion. Huh? What about my cookies?

Wait. Claire stops. Those are your cookies?

Another incredibly confused look. Claire, hunnie, your dad just bought this bag in the gelato shop.

This is too much for me and Claire. We have to take a step away from the group to contain ourselves. Claire gets the hiccups from laughing so hard. To think, she manages to get out between deep breaths, After all that, the street cookies belonged to my dad.
