Birthday girl
“Larkin, please do not go too crazy for this. I know you have an insane week.”
Julia (my sister) and 8 of her friends are coming to Chicago this weekend for a little St Patrick’s Day fun. I have a pile of them staying with me and I believe another of her friend’s sisters is taking on the rest. In addition to it being the day of leprechauns in Chicago, we’re also going to be celebrating Jules’ birthday which is the following Wednesday and her friend’s birthday which is on Sunday. Julia sniffed out that there may be some birthday themed celebrations taking place on Friday and immediately texted me.
I know my sister. I know that she does not want to drink alcohol on Friday. I know that she will probably want to do some sort of athletic activity. I know that she would way prefer a grill-out to pizza delivery. I know that she does not want me to ‘go too crazy’ because she never ever ever wants to feel like she is causing anyone any stress. And I also know that she would rather not have too many surprises.
I put her at ease by telling her the skeleton of the schedule. She knows when she’ll be where and she knows the loose dinner menu. The rest? She’s just going to have to wait and see.
Sometimes people are worth going a little crazy for.
