March 14th - Sleeping In
How’s the snow? A text from my mom. Lame. I respond, glancing out the window at the spooky orange light flooding into the house. I love storms at night and the way they change the entire sky. This storm isn’t proving to be much of a storm, however. A solid inch is on some parts of the ground, but for the most part the snow is not sticking. 30 inches, yeah right. I could have gone and hiked in Breck today.
By 10:30 I can barely keep my eyes open. I’m going to bed. I say to an already-asleep Austin, and head upstairs. My head barely hits the pillow and I’m out.
I wake up in a weird state of not knowing what time it is. Roscoe is no longer in the crate next to me, so it’s probably after 7. I mutter a silent thanks to Austin for dealing with feeding & letting him out & - my favorite part - brushing off his muddy paws this morning. The light coming into the room isn’t giving me any clues. It could be 6, it could be 8. Sleepily, I roll over and grab for my phone. 10:15.
Whaaaaaat. I loud- whisper. I cannot remember the last time I slept in past 8. I knew I was tired last night, but this is crazy.
Not wanting to be even more delinquent in starting my day than I already am, I roll out of bed, grabbing for the pair of sweats I kicked off in the middle of the night. My eyes sleepies are just beginning to unstick when I pull back the blinds of the bedroom window.
Shit.
The stupid snow came. A lot of it. And it doesn’t really look like it’s stopping anytime soon. That checks out for why I couldn’t tell what time it was. The whole world is gray-white.
Austin comes up while I’m brushing my teeth. I let you sleep in! He proudly declares. Yeah, I say through my toothbrush. This is crazy. It’s almost 10:30.
10:30? No… His brow furrows as he pulls out his phone. Looking at his confusion, it clicks.
Daylight savings. We both say at the same time.
I let out a sigh. Phew. 9:15 is still ridiculous, but can be totally blamed on my long week filled with plenty of activities and not plenty of sleep.
Content, I finish brushing my teeth. So, what are we going to do with our snow day?
