March 17 - Enya

Last night I (re)discovered that I am not good at trivia. And that my coworker, Jenni, is very, very good. We showed up at the bar planning on a chill, casual, non-trivia couple drinks to celebrate our coworker who is moving onto other opportunities (and yes, that’s a nice way of saying he quit) and decided to roll with the punches when we were handed a trivia slip.

Almost absolutely zero thanks to me, we ended up winning.

Round 4 out of 8 was ‘Irish Music’. The host played a piece of a song and we had to determine who sang it and what song it was. Side note: did everyone know Snow Patrol was Irish?! Was this common knowledge?! My coworkers and I had a pretty easy time through the first five or so. And then a song came over the speakers that I was really not expecting.

Enya! I exclaimed.

Larkin, shh. Jenni gave me a gentle elbow to the side to remind me to keep my voice down. We had just found out that we were in second and the competition was getting real.

Enya, huh, never heard of them, one of my coworkers commented. I nodded emphatically. When I was little, I had the entire Enya CD. My mom had put me to bed listening to it. Just hearing a few notes of Only Time being played in a crowded bar was enough to transport me back to using my little clock-radio and to make my eyes feel heavy.

I had no idea what rose gold is made out of (gold, copper, silver) or where Game of Thrones was primarily filmed (Northern Ireland) or even how many combined grand slam titles the Williams sisters have won (30)… but I know my Enya.
