March 25 - Superstitions

I am an incredibly superstitious person. I fully blame it on my theatrical childhood - don’t say the Shakespeare play that starts with an M, absolutely no whistling in a theater, NEVER say ‘good luck’ (only break a leg), and the list essentially never ends.

So tonight watching March Madness, I really wanted Kansas State to win. I have a bunch of friends from Kansas City and they just strike me as a really cool team. One of the players didn’t play high school basketball - he spent his high school career playing street basketball in Harlem instead. And then went on to play college basketball. How cool.

The game had about 5 minutes left and it was close. I looked down at my phone for a hot second and in that hot second, K-state scored. I jumped to the conclusion that any reasonable (very superstitious) person would. I decided that I had to not pay attention to the rest of the game.

If you know the final score, you also know that my not paying attention to the rest of the game did not exactly pan out as I’d hoped, but in no way do I think that that is anyone’s fault other than my own. I think that I wasn’t ‘not paying attention’ in the right way. Obviously if I had just been texting my friend Jenni the entire time (that’s what I was doing when they scored) then K-State would have won.

I have Texas winning the championships so I just might have to go back to the bar I was at when the whooped Xavier last night… that’s rational, right??
